Der Begriff »closing speed« (closing velocity) wird im englischsprachigen Sprachraum oft verwendet, um die [[Unfallschwere]] zu erklären.
Als Beispiel kann ein Frontalzusammenstoß zweier Fahrzeuge mit jeweils 60&nbsp;km/h dienen. Die »closing speed« beträgt dann 120&nbsp;km/h.<ref>https://www.drivejohnsons.co.uk/learning-centre/driving-dictionary/closing-speed/</ref> In diesem Fall würde man im Deutschen den Begriff »Differenzgeschwindigkeit« verwenden. Zu berücksichtigen ist, dass die Geschwindigkeit eine vektorielle Größe ist. Nicht immer entspricht die Kollisionsgeschwindigkeit der »closing speed«.
